By actively engaging local stakeholders, organizations funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services and community residents work together to identify solutions that can lead to a reduction in gun incidents by 10–15% over the next year. This group, called CREW, is charged with identifying strategies to enhance the quality of life for residents of Ashburn and Burnside by fostering strong community partnerships, improving access to critical resources, and promoting a culture of nonviolence.

The plan is being developed in response to challenges faced by some residents in each of these communities, including limited resources, economic disparities, and infrastructure needs—while also building on the community’s existing strengths, resilience, and potential for growth.

And so, the Purpose of this conference is to share perspectives from professionals representing organizations who provide Community Violence Interruption work and foster community-based strategies to prevent and reduce gun violence.

Direct Engagement With The Community

Throughout the year, our team presents meaning events to enrich the lives of individuals and their families who are impacted by gun violence.  These events provide an outlet to acquire meaningful coping skills while interacting with others who have had similar experiences.
